DIY Masks As Contributed By Our Community of Savarnas Beauties

In ancient civilisations, in the olden times, even in our mothers’ and grandmothers’ times, skincare was a fluid process. It was ever evolving, with women sitting around and sharing their woes. Those who could, would share remedies. And hence the recipes, prescriptions and home remedies grew. Today, the social media has replaced this interpersonal bonding over skincare. However, the DIYs and remedies keep coming! We are delighted to be at the centre of such a robust community, where our beauties came up and shared their personal go-to DIY mask recipes. And here we are, publishing them on our blog for the rest of the world to see.

And since Savarnas Mantra is a cross between the ancient and the modern, we will also break down these recipes to give you the science behind the DIY.

But First, Why Does Community Sharing Matter?

It is a simple fact. Everybody needs to be heard. And everybody needs to be seen. When it comes to skincare, more so. We want somebody to hear us out when we are ranting about our dry skin or acne or rosacea (FYI, April is coming up ;) Rosacea awareness month). We want to also be heard when we give out remedies that have worked for us. Here comes the power of community, where you can talk it all out. Where you are also valued for your inputs. At Savarnas Mantra, we continue to foster this tradition. Be it at our chain of Savarnas Beauty Spas or in our skincare brand’s social pages. Collective wisdom is the way forward.

DIY Mask Recipes from the Savarnas Community

Green Tea and Rice Flour Mask:

  • Blend 1 tbsp rice flour with brewed green tea for instant brightness. It helps with hydration.
  • The writer of this recipe has also sent their love to our Savarnas Restorative Mask, which, we are proud to say is also a brilliant hydrator.

Skin Science:

Green tea contains antioxidants, Catechins being the most effective among them. These help protect the skin from damage caused by free radicals, helping you with a brighter complexion. Rice flour acts as a gentle exfoliant, removing dead skin cells for smoother, hydrated skin.

      2. Honey and Ginseng Powder Mask:

  • Combine honey with 1 tbsp ginseng powder for radiance.
  • Regular application bi-monthly can show noticeable results.

Skin Science:

Honey is a natural humectant. Which means it attracts moisture to the skin. Ginseng powder contains phytonutrients which promote circulation, giving your skin a healthy glow. Hence the radiance!

  1. Yogurt and Turmeric Mask:
  • A simple yet potent blend from generations past. It is instantly smoothing and brightening.
  • The writer also highlighted how it was passed down from their mother.

 Skin Science:

Yogurt contains lactic acid, which gently exfoliates the skin. It reduced dullness. Turmeric, on the other hand, has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, helping soothe and clarify the skin. When used together, they give you smooth and bright skin.

  1. Chickpea Flour and Neem Powder Mask:
  • A gentle exfoliating blend with neem and chickpea flour.
  • Incorporating rose water can add a softening touch, contributing to clear skin.

Skin Science:

Chickpea flour is a mild exfoliant. Once the paste is dried, you can easily scrub it off, and along with it any dead skin cells. It is also good to unclog deep pores. Neem powder has antibacterial properties that help combat acne. Rose water adds hydration and soothes the skin, making it an excelling toning solution in the mask.

  1. Honey-Oatmeal Mask:
  • This is a very comforting concoction for the skin. Softens the skin.
  • You can also try our Honey Exfoliant if you are not in the mood to make this at home.

 Skin Science:

Honey, as mentioned above, is a natural humectant. Oatmeal is a natural scrub as well as contains essential soothing properties. This helps calm any irritation or inflammation, making it ideal for sensitive skin. The Savarnas Honey Exfoliant mentioned above is also our special offering meant for sensitive, acne-prone and dull skin.

  1. Avo-Honey Mask:
  • Mashed avocado mixed with honey sounds like a dessert.
  • But it offers a luxurious velvet finish to the skin.

Skin Science:

Avocado is rich in vitamins and fatty acids. It nourishes as well as hydrates the skin. Honey attracts all the moisture and locks it in. The result? An indulgent, pampering mask session that leaves the skin feeling supple.
